The best way to tell you about the man behind Waterways Mail, Nick Tait, is to put the thumbscrews on and ask him questions!!

Q. "So tell me Nick, what made you start up this mail forwarding service in the first place?"

A. "I wanted to develop a business that I could take with me and run when I eventually move on to my boat, and something I would enjoy doing. I saw how impersonal and faceless other forwarding companies seemed, so as a keen boater I wanted to set up the service from a customer’s viewpoint if you see what I mean".

Q. "Um - not really... could you explain it a little further? We don’t want to have to get the thumbscrews out again do we?"

A. "Well, when you’re moving around on the waterways it's nice to know that one phone call, text or email to to us and we can direct your mail to the next town you are stopping at, or hold it until you return. I would also object to paying a fortune to have my mail forwarded, which with us you don't. And if you live in a residential mooring it would be nice not to have to travel too far to collect your post - that’s why we have “post office finder” on our website."

Q. "Well some people will still have to travel some distance to reach a post office, won't they?"

A. "Unfortunately yes, some will have to - that’s why I am setting up a network of mail receiving agents on, or as close as possible to the water system, to make it possible to have your mail delivered to your mooring or to a location very close by."

Q. How would a typical day in the life of “Mr. Waterways Mail” go"?

A. ”Well, after I’ve dropped my little girl off at school, I head off to the post box to pick up all my clients’ letters, go back to the office make a cup of coffee, and sit down to sort out whose mail I have, where its got to go etc, then each client’s batch of letters is bundled and placed in their pigeon box ready for posting on, depending on when they have opted to have it sent. Then it's on the PC to check my messages, set up new client packages etc, then it's off to the post office again to forward all the outgoing mail.”

Q. "Try and tell us in around 30 words why waterways users should use your mail forwarding company rather than any of the others."

A. "OK - well we are small but highly efficient, with real people who care about our clients and their needs, we don’t charge the earth, and we are flexible, we are also forward thinking and hope to develop our service to make travelling for miles to pick up your mail a thing of the past. I’m crazy about canal boats! I want all boat users to like me, and use my service!!”

Q. "Thats over 70 words!”

A."Sorry!"
